The basics:

Explanation of Uber Permissions

When signing in with Uber, Thrifty Trips requests three permissions. The following is an explanation of what Thrifty Trips gains access to when you grant these permissions, and how Thrifty Trips actually uses each permission. Uber does not allow a third party application to request fine-grained permissions, i.e. if we need permission to read your Saved Places but don't need permission to update them, we must request permission for both and can't just request for either access or update permission.

Explanation of App Permissions

Thrifty Trips requests access to your location in order to display your current location on the map and to get price estimates for Uber rides near you. We do not store your location in any way on our servers and we do not collect any analytics related to your location.

Location permission is not required for Thrifty Trips to fully function. If you deny location permission, you can still set a destination, and you can manually move the map to an area near your desired pickup location to scan for prices.

Location coordinates are sent to Uber via its APIs to request products/prices at specific pickup locations, and request rides for a pickup location and dropoff location that you specify. This data is handled by Uber according to their Privacy Policy.

Thrifty Trips requires Internet access for communicating with Uber through their API, loading maps data, and sending feedback if you choose to send feedback.

Thrifty Trips and Your Data

Typical Use

All app data, including the data that Thrifty Trips receives by calling Uber's APIs, is only stored locally on your device. Thrifty Trips does not back up your data to any cloud services.

Thrifty Trips, uses Uber as a third-party service for sign-in and API requests and Google Maps as a third-party service for mapping and Google APIs for location searches. See Third-Party Services for more details.

Firebase Analytics

Thrifty Trips uses Google's Firebase for analytics and crashlytics, purely for the purpose of helping us improve the quality of the application. We do not sell any analytics collected. The events that we log using Firebase include certain actions performed in the app (i.e. Scan Prices button pressed, ride type switched, etc) and errors encountered while using the app. These logs do not include PII (personally identifiable information), do not include location coordinates, and are securely stored on Google's servers according to Firebase's Privacy Policy.

Sending Feedback

When you send feedback, the only information we see is the text that you enter into the form's fields. You may choose to be anonymous, or you may provide your e-mail address to receive a reply. Some fields on the feedback form may be pre-populated from your device, such as your device OS and app version. You may choose to delete these before submitting the form.

We do not actively share your feedback information with any third-parties; however, the feedback interface uses Google Forms, so your input is stored on Google's servers. See Google's terms.

During the beta testing period, the feedback form includes a section at the bottom that details a Beta Participation Reward and how to receive that reward. If you choose to provide the details required to receive the reward, i.e. your email address and unique identifier, we will be able to associate the unique identifer with Firebase events that your device logged. This allows us to determine if you successfully requested a ride through Thrifty Trips, to determine if you are eligible for receiving the reward.

Third-Party Services

Thrifty Trips uses Uber for their sign-in service and data in their backend, and is bound by the Uber API Terms of Use. See Uber's Privacy Policy for details on what information Uber may collect.

Thrifty Trips uses the Google Maps Platform to provide maps and location searching capabilities, and is bound by the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service. See Google's Privacy Policy for details on what information Google may collect.

Data Deletion

Data that is stored locally in Thrifty Trips can be deleted by simply deleting the application from your device.

If you sent feedback via the Google Form and wish to have your response deleted, send an email to support@sparrogon.com with the subject "Data Deletion Request - Thrifty Trips". We will delete your feedback within 30 days of your request.

Future Changes

We may update this policy in the future, but we will not collect personally identifiable information without your explicit consent.
